The children who don’t go school

In Britain today there seven thousand children never go to school. But where are they and what do they every day?
Penny Wishful finds out. Bill Smith and wife Elaine sit at the table with two children, Tony and Penny. It’s nine o’clock Monday morning and the are still home. It’s not the holidays but the start of a week for the Smith family.

We live forty-five minutes from the school, says father Bill, so we think it’s a good idea to keep the children home and teach them ourselves. Also, at school there are about children in every class - it’t not ideal. At home we can give Tony and Penny a lot of help with reading writing and difficult subjects like maths. A typical day for Tony and Penny at 9.30 with some on the home computer. We use the computer a lot, says Bill. In the morning the children do maths programs and in the afternoon we often use the Internet to about different subjects like technology, history or geography. It's really helpful for us. It's not all computers and maths. On Friday afternoon always do something fun with parents like art, music or even in the family kitchen.
What the children think? at home with Mum and Dad is great, says ten year old Tony. I don't need to get up early and I really using the computer.
